Setting Your Goals For the New Year and Throughout the Year – Part One

Post image for Setting Your Goals For the New Year and Throughout the Year – Part One

The New Year is here and many of us are as busy and active as ever. This is the time of year where is it customary to make New Years resolutions with the intention of achieving each and every last one of them. Resolutions (i.e. goal setting) are especially important if you want to improve your relationships and experiences with men and find that special someone, particularly in Vancouver.

So here is what you need to know in terms of keeping your resolutions and achieving your goals.

You may have heard this before, but I cannot reiterate enough the value and importance of goal setting. You see, the most successful men and women of yesterday and today got there because they had a dream, a vision, a goal. It may have been something as deliberate and major as, “I will not settle until I meet, date, and marry my ideal woman,” to small milestones such as, “I want to learn how to have more men in my life” or “I want to get second and third dates with the men I meet”.

I personally use goal setting extensively and the first thing I find out from my private coaching clients are what they think their dating and relationship goals are. Proper goal setting is important because to do it right means that some thought about the overall scale and process of your dating is needed and that is a good thing. At some point, the pursuit of happiness (and not just happiness, but any worthy pursuit) becomes spiritual, but that’s a topic for a forthcoming post as well!

So without further adieu, here are some guidelines I use when I set goals:

Start your major goal setting at significant times during the year. The start of the year is an obvious time, but I also revisit and reassess my goals quarterly. I break apart everything that I have been doing and set new step goals to reach my overall goal at these times.

You need to have an overall goal for each pursuit in your life, be it business, health, or relationships. This goal can be as grand as you want and it should be just out of your reach, yet something you believe is possible. And you must believe in the goal, that it can be a reality for you. In the end, you may not reach your goal, but because you set the bar so high, you would have taken yourself further than you would have gone otherwise.

Having an overall goal which you feel positive about to strive for is important to your success. An example would be to never settle with a man you know you will not be happy with, to keep looking for your ideal man for a relationship.

Another example could be to develop your skills so that you can attract and get your most ideal guy, which has always eluded you in the past. Whatever your overall goal is, make it a lofty goal.

In the next part, we’ll talk specifically on how to do this using Step Goals.
